Clinical History
This is a 40-year-old male patient with history of
intractable seizure undergoing a Wada test.
This examination is requested to evaluate brain
blood flow.
Technique
While the patient was undergoing an interventional Wada test,
injection of 1 millicurie of Neurolite was made with a
catheter in place in the left internal carotid artery.
After completion of the interventional procedure,
the patient was brought to the department for SPECT
brain imaging.
Findings
Injection of the Neurolite into the left internal carotid demonstrates
perfusion of the left cerebral hemisphere. Perfusion of the left
temporal lobe appears normal. Note is made of increased activity in the
region of the left basal ganglia. In addition to perfusion of the left
cerebral hemisphere there is contralateral flow to the
posterior occipital region of the right cerebral hemisphere.
Impressions
1.PERFUSION OF THE LEFT CEREBRAL HEMISPHERE
INCLUDING THE LEFT TEMPORAL LOBE VIA THE LEFT INTERNAL
CAROTID ARTERY AS DESCRIBED.
2.CONTRALATERAL FLOW TO THE RIGHT
OCCIPITAL REGION VIA THE SAME INJECTION OF THE
LEFT INTERNAL CAROTID ARTERY.
