Clinical History
This is a 17 year-old female with seizure disorder.
Technique
The patient was placed in a quiet dark room and was administered 12.0 mCi of 18F-FDG and 45 minutes later imaging of the brain was obtained. The patient appeared to be having signs of a mild seizure during the time of the injection.
Findings
1. There is a large markedly intense focus of hypermetabolic activity in the region of the right globus pallidus, putamen, insula, and operculum which extends to the vertex in the frontoparietal region.
2. There is slight asymmetry in the head of the caudate nucleaus with approximately 10% less activity seen in the right caudate head. There is 5% to 10% decreased activity seen in the right thalamus.
3. There is 10% decreased activity seen in the left cerebellar hemisphere when compared to the right.
4. The frontal lobes and occipital lobes are normal in appearance.
Impression
ACTIVE SEIZURE FOCUS AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
