Clinical History
The patient is a 51-year-old female with known
carcinoid turmor. We have been asked to evaluate
the presence and extent of the disease.
Technique
The patient received and intravenous injection of 5.5
millicuries of Indium 111Octreotide. Stable
somatostatin therapy was discontinued approximately
5 days prior to the injection.
Comparison is made with
the previous Octreotide
scans of 06/07/95.
Findings
Whole body images demonstrate relatively normal
uptake in liver, spleen, kidney and bladder. There is
however a diffuse mid abdominal small bowel uptake
which is beyond the usual amount of activity seen on
both the 4 hour and 24 hour images. Comparison with
the previous scan of 06/08/95 shows that mid-
abdominal activity was there at that time and was not
commented upon. Experience over the past year has
demonstrated that this is not normal activity and is
most likely small bowel involvement with carcinoid.
There is evidence that it is unchanged from the
previous study.
SPECT activity of the liver
again demonstrates
multiple focal areas of
increased uptake seen the
multiple metastatic
carcinoid deposits in the
liver. The metastases are
more difficult to see at this
time and are less
numerous. This indicates
some degree of
improvement in the liver
involvement.
There is no evidence of
metastatic involvement
elsewhere in the body.
