Clinical History
The patient is a 61-year-old male with CLL and
suspected GI bleeding. Comparison is made to a
previous study on 2/3/97.
Technique
On 2/27/97, the patient's red blood cells were labeled
with 29 millicuries of Technetium 99m Pertechnetate.
Dynamic images were obtained for 90 minutes at 5
minute intervals.
Findings
Images demonstrate normal activity in the aorta and
in the iliac vessels. There is normal activity identified
in the liver. Radiotracer activity consistent with active
GI bleeding is definitely identified by five minutes in
the small bowel. The activity appears to be most
intense in the region of the left lower quadrant
superior to the left of the aortic bifurcation. There is
also an area of activity identified in the right upper
quadrant in the region of the hepatic flexure
consistent with active GI bleeding.
Impressions
GI BLEEDING SCAN DEMONSTRATING ACTIVE GI
BLEEDING IN THE SMALL BOWEL ESPECIALLY IN
THE REGION OF THE LEFT LOWER QUADRANT
SUPERIOR TO THE AORTIC BIFURCATION. THERE
ALSO APPEARS TO BE AN AREA OF ACTIVE GI
BLEEDING IN THE RIGHT UPPER QUADRANT IN
THE REGION OF THE HEPATIC FLEXURE.
