Clinical History
This is a 43-year-old male with a healing sacral fracture
at S2. This examination is performed to evaluate the
sacral fracture site and lumbosacral facets. There are no
prior studies for comparison.
Technique
The patient was administered an IV injection of 25.4
millicuries of 99m Tc MDP, and three hour delayed
SPECT images of the lumbar spine and sacrum were
obtained.
Findings
The SPECT images demonstrate a focal area of increased
uptake identified at approximately S2 of the sacrum
compatible with a bony reparative process likely
secondary to healing of known sacral fracture. There
is also a focal area of increased uptake of the radiolabled
phosphate seen of the pedicle of L5 on the left which
also likely indicates an area of reparative bony productions.
No other areas of increased uptake are identified.
Normal activitiy is identified in the kidneys with excretion
of the radiotracer seen in the bladder. The visualized
facet joints do not show areas of abnormal focal uptake
of the radiotracer.
Impressions
1. Area of focal abnormal uptake identified in the region
of approximately S2 compatible with healing sacral
fracture.
2. Focal area of increased uptake identified of the
left pedicle of L5 compatible with healing fracture.
3. The facet joints in the lumbosacral region are
intact without areas of abnormal focal uptake.
